The mailing says THEY HAVE CALLED FOR OUR SUPPORT. The mailing says over the course of that week, millions of South Africans will take to the streets to demand an end to government support for vigilantes and police loyal to Zulu bantuatan chief Mangosuthu Gatsha Buthelezi; since 1987 Buthelezi's followers, armed, led and protected by the apartheid police, have killed thousands of people in Natal province and driven tens of thousands more from their homes. The mailing asks people to contact State President F.W. de Klerk to demand the end of police and army support for Buthelezi's vigilantes, and demobilization of the KwaZulu Bantustan police; publicly demand Secretary of State James Baker put effective U.S. pressure on de Klerk to meet the peoples' demands; and send messages of support to COSATU.
