Mailing about the Illinois Labor Network Against Apartheid signed by Johnnie Jackson, President, Chicago Chapter, Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW). The mailing says the Steering Committee of the Illinois Labor Network Against Apartheid will meet on Thursday, March 3, 8: 30 to 10: 00 a.m. at ACTWU, 133 South Ashland; I urge you to attend as we will decide plans for March 18 demonstration and the Shell Boycott, as well as a budget; as requested, a short film or two will be shown at the end of each meeting for those who can stay, for the purpose of reviewing and recommending to local unions. The mailing says I ask those of you who have not yet contributed to the cost of getting the Network started, please do so at your earliest convenience; checks should be written to Illinois Labor Network Against Apartheid and sent to % Machinists District 8, 1225 S. Harlem, Forest Park 60130. The mailing says Monday's news conference generated very good radio coverage as well as the Defender and others. The mailing says petitions must be turned in by March 14; additional petitions and flyers on the March 18 demonstration are available. The mailing says Phil Immesote, Director, UFCW region 11, will send letters to unions and clergy in the next few days publicizing the demonstration; Jack Parton, Director, USWA District 31, will send letters to AFL-CIO central labor bodies regarding the Network. The mailing says I look forward to serving as a Chair of the Labor Network along with Bill Stewart of UAW and Jack Parton of USWA. The mailing discusses UFCW (United Food and Canning Workers), USWA (United Steelworkers of America), the UAW (United Auto Workers), and coordinators Kathy Devine and Harold Rogers.
