Resolution to be adopted by unions with lines to be filled in the name of the union affiliate who adopted it, the date adopted, signed by, title, address and telephone number. The resolution says the Bush Administration in 1991 prematurely and unconscionably lifted federal sanctions against South Africa. The resolution says tens of thousands of public and private sector employees have been fired in 1992 for exercising their democratic rights. The resolution says We demand that the U.S. government: 1. Immediately stop sending funds to Inkatha; 2. Exert maximum economic and diplomatic pressure on De Klerk to stop state-sponsored death squads and end the violence; 3. Support efforts in the United Nations to exert pressure on De Klerk and ensure a peaceful transfer of power to a majority government. The resolution says we support the maintenance of state and local economic sanctions, including a ban on trade, until such time as the dismantling of apartheid has become irrevocable and we are so notified by COSATU. The resolution says we support COSATU's call for an immediate halt to privatization and economic restructuring by the current regime, as well as the rehiring of all workers fired for exercising their right to strike and other democratic rights. The resolution says we support all efforts that will lead to an Interim Government and democratic non-racial, non-sexist and democratic South Africa based on the principle of one person, one vote. The resolution discusses violence instigated by South African security units and Inkatha vigilantes, democratic organizations, negotiations to end apartheid, police, army units, KwaZulu Chief Minister Buthelezi, Inkatha (Inkatha Freedom Party, IFP), free political activity, worker hostels, the Bantustan system, KwaZulu police, and COSATU (Congress of South African Trade Unions).
