Reminder from the Labor Desk of The Africa Fund to register for the "US Labor Against Apartheid: A National Workshop on Strategies For Local Organizing In Changing Times," to be held in Philadelphia from February 28 - March 1. Confirmed attendees at this first-ever national meeting of locally-based anti-apartheid labor activists include representatives from the Illinois Labor Network Against Apartheid, Bay Area Free South Africa Labor Committee, New York Labor Committee Against Apartheid, and Philadelphia Labor Committee Against Apartheid. The featured speaker, National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa Regional Secretary Bethuel Maserumule, is coming from the frontline of the struggle specifically for the workshop; he will be fresh from an emergency NUMSA Congress called in response to the mass dismissal and arrest of workers at the Philadelphia-based Crown Cork and Seal Company. He has been mandated by NUMSA General Secretary Moses Mayekiso to build the campaign against the union-busting multi-national and present the full agenda of Black labor for democracy and economic transformation in South Africa. The contact person for registration is Rachael Kagan.
