Mailing advertising a demonstration in Chicago on March 18 from Phillip L. lmmesote, Vice President and Director Region 11 - Northcentral of the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union office in Rosemont, Illinois on behalf of the Illinois Labor Network Against Apartheid. The demonstration will: (1) publicize the jailing of unionists and all South African political prisoners, (2) call attention to the boycott of Shell Oil, whose parent company supplies the SA military and police, and (3) demand stronger U.S. government sanctions. Last year alone, more than 20,000 were detained for anti-apartheid action including thousands of children, as well as trade union leaders. Protests must be escalated focused on increased repression of the black majority. Petitions should be collected by March 14, so they can be submitted to the South African Consulate. Speakers on March 18 will include the Rev. George Clements, Alderman Danny Davis, and three labor leaders, with Immesote as Emcee. Nomonde Ngubo, a South African mineworker in exile, has been invited to attend.
