The mailing provides an update about our relationship with Alexandra and thanks people who wrote to the South African government protesting detention of two activists of the Grahamstown Rural Committee (GRC). Glen Thomas has since been released, but Robert Nogumla is still detained. The Sister Community network informs us of a critical situation in Thornhill, Wichita's sister community. Thornhill residents have been left without land after the government's attempt to remove them. Joan Gerig was warmly received at a rally during her recent visit to Alexandra, and Alexandra Civic Organization (ACO) chairperson Moses Mayekiso expressed appreciation for Chicago's support for their struggle. The next Sister Community Project meeting is at the Lutheran School of Theology on April 21, 1990. The mailing includes memo "Re: Release of Glen Thomas" by Mike Kenyon of the GRC. The mailing mentions the Soweto Day Rally, Chicago-Alexandra Sister Community Project, the state of emergency, the Internal Security Act, and the Minister of Law and Order.
