Resolution adopted by the San Francisco Labor Council introduced by Delegates Olson and Abrams of the Typographical Union, Local 21. The resolution says the National AFL-CIO condemns apartheid in South Africa and calls for a boycott of all South African goods; that there be no new US investments in South Africa; and that there be a severing of all cultural social, and diplomatic ties with South Africa. The resolution says members of the International Longshoremen's and Warehousemen's Union, Local 10, in San Francisco, recently refused to discharge South African cargo from a Dutch vessel which added to the national awareness and reaction against the inhuman and cruel policies of the South African government. The resolution says national and International community reaction and public opinion forced President Ronald Reagan to speak out against the racist, apartheid system in South Africa. The resolution says over 22 prominent Americans, led by Black and White Congresspersons, National AFL-CIO officers, International Presidents of AFL-CIO unions, Black ministers, and others were arrested in Washington D.C., protesting South African racial polices, as well as many local leaders here in the Bay Area. The resolution says the Oakland Mayor and City Council has urged their Port Commissioners to refuse to dock ships with South African cargo or to handle South African cargo; the San Francisco Labor Council reiterate our support of the National AFL-CIO policy against apartheid and racism and join with all those who fight against the inhuman and cruel policies of the South African government. The resolution says the San Francisco Labor Council urge Mayor Feinstein and the Board of Supervisors to pressure the San Francisco Port Commission to refuse to allow ships to load or unload cargo destined for or coming from South Africa. The resolution resolves that this resolution be sent to President Reagan, local Congresspersons, Mayor Feinstein, the Board of Supervisors, members of the San Francisco Port Commission, the Port Director, the International office of the I.L.W.U., and I.L.W.U., Local 10. The resolution discusses the International Longshoremen's and Warehousemen's Union (ILWU). [Note: the Typographical Union is presumably the International Typographical Union.]
