Fundraising mailing for the Africa Resource Center. The Center, established four years ago, has helped to demystify the African continent - and to accurately portray its diversity, depth and breadth. The Center is dedicated to helping the general public comprehend their connections to Africa - from cultural heritage, to raw materials used in consumer goods, to U.S. businesses involved in the development of sovereign nations. Co-founded by, $top Banking on Apartheid (SBOA), the Center has a strong focus on South Africa and the role played by U.S. corporations in maintaining its apartheid system. The Center distributes materials of the International Defense and Aid Fund (IDAF), the Catholic Institute for International Relations, and the American Committee on Africa (ACOA). The Center also produce its own materials when needed, such as "Our Town Out of South Africa," a comprehensive manual on citizen-sponsored initiatives, and leaflets on U.S. nuclear links with South Africa. The Center is expanding its activities in 1984 to include: working to implement the South Africa resolution passed by the National Nuclear Freeze Campaign, sponsoring a monthly African film series, developing high school curriculum packets, conducting a comprehensive survey of lending and affirmative action practices of banks and savings and loan associations, and facilitating direct relations between congregations in South Africa, California and Europe. The Africa Resource Center has earned a reputation for accurate, balanced information and diverse resources, as shown by thank you letters received from school children, congregations, trade unionists, and citizens concerned about investments in their community.
