The Bay Area South Africa Network (BASAN) is coordinating a Material Aid Campaign to collect equipment and funds to assist the new government in its transition. Organized labor joined community activists in picketing businesses who refused to divest. The International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) waged a ten-day boycott, refusing to unload any goods entering west coast ports from South Africa. Shanty towns were built on college campuses, including University of California Berkeley (UCB), to protest refusals to divest from South Africa. The program discusses indigenous language, registration, voting procedures, the struggle to end apartheid, the Civil Rights Struggle in the U.S., reinvestment, the right to vote, redlining, the high cost of college and limited financial aid programs, the job market, racism, sexism, discrimination, and Alameda County.
