Mailing asks people to send postcards to be delivered to the South African Embassy in Washington, D.C. calling for ending detention of children under the State of Emergency. Since June, 1986, over 10,000 children under 18 have been detained, and nearly all of them have been tortured, mistreated, or traumatized. The Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law is coordinating a campaign to urge President Botha to release all children remaining in detention, in conjunction with the observance of International Day of Solidarity with the political prisoners of South Africa on October 11, 1987. Postcards are being collected from people around the U.S.
