House Resolution 131, introduced by Representative Mervyn Dymally (D-CA), and Senate Resolution 254, introduced by Senator Paul Simon (D-IL), state that the President should urge the South Africa government to "take prompt and effective action" to end its illegal occupation of Namibia and implement United Nations Resolution 435, the internationally accepted peace plan for Namibian independence. After World War I, the League of Nations "entrusted" Namibia (then known as South West Africa) as a mandated territory to South Africa; since 1918, South Africa has brutally colonized the territory. During the last three years of Congressional and Administration debate on sanctions against South Africa, little has been said about Pretoria's illegal occupation of Namibia. Refugee camps, schools and medical facilities run by South West Africa People's Organization (SWAPO) in the Frontline states are in desperate need of support. People are urged to sponsor material and financial aid campaigns in their community as well as to contact their Representative and Senators and create grassroots support for Namibia independence. The mailing mentions German colonization, 100 years of colonial occupation, the House Foreign Affairs Committee, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Lowell Weicker, Quentin Burdick, Senator Jesse Helms, S.Res. 300, the administration's "linkage" policy, and the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC). • WHAT YOU CAN DO TO SUPPORT H.RES. 131/ S.RES. 254
