The leaflet says resistance to Apartheid is growing; black South Africans are risking their lives to change a system which denies their most basic human and civil rights. $TOP BANKING ON APARTHEID is the California component of the nationwide Campaign to Oppose Bank Loans to South Africa. While Bank of America is by far the largest lender to South Africa, $BOA eight other California banks also lend to South Africa (Wells Fargo, Crocker, Union, Security Pacific, Sumitomo, United California, French, and Chartered Bank of London). A growing number of individuals, organizations, cities, and pension funds are working to stop discrimination in South Africa and the U.S. The leaflet recommends organizing an educational program for your community, school, union, or religious organization; writing letters to your local newspaper and congressional representatives; calling or going into your local bank and finding out about its investment, employment and lending practices (sample questions are available from $BOA). $BOA has an Alternative Investment Packet about investing in a socially responsible manner. Withdraw your account if your bank is making loans to South Africa or discriminating at home; work with others to get your town or organization to remove its accounts or vote its stock in favor of no more loans to Apartheid. Take part in $BOA's coordinated state-wide actions.; distribute post-cards or leaflets protesting BofA's loans. The leaflet mentions local discrimination, redlining, deficient 'affirmative action' practices, denial of employees' right to collective bargaining, smaller banks and savings and loan associations, credit unions, minority and community-owned banks, slide shows, films, speakers, educational materials, and banking alternatives.
