The leaflet urges people usually focused on political issues in the United States to pay attention to South Africa, where black people cannot vote, own land, or hold public office. The United States has been a major supporter of apartheid South Africa. The U.S. helps to arm South Africa. IBM, Burroughs Corp., and NCR Corp. supply South Africa with computers needed by its police to keep tabs on everyone who would resist. Without U.S. support in the International Monetary Fund, South Africa could not finance the enormous military machine it depends on. South African Prime Minister P.W. Botha recently went on a propaganda tour of Europe to try to persuade world opinion that his government is ready to make concessions in Namibia. While Botha was on tour, his henchmen detained 37 Southwest African People's Organization (SWAPO) leaders. Also, South Africa has continued to raid and plunder Mozambique, Lesotho, Angola, Zimbabwe, and Botswana - countries that border South Africa and are opposed to apartheid. SAMRAF (the South African Military Refugee Aid Fund) is an organization of white South African exiles, war resisters, and North Americans who support the struggle for liberation in South Africa. The leaflet mentions Pass Laws, "banning," President Ronald Reagan, Bantustans, Newmont Mining, Kennecott, metals, foreign exchange, Ford, GM (General Motors), Union Carbide, Fluor, Kodak, Republican attempts to gut the Voting Rights Act, Democrats ·intransigence over Jackson delegates, and the South African Army.
