The mailing says Portlanders Organized for Southern African Freedom (POSAF) was organized in September, 1983 by the Black United Front and the American Friends Service Committee, Southern Africa Program. It is dedicated to supporting all peoples in Southern Africa who are struggling to end apartheid. POSAF challenges U.S. cultural and economic ties with South Africa and supports the United Nations international cultural and sports boycott against apartheid. POSAF is organizing a picket at the performance by Johnny Mathis at the Portland Civic Auditorium because he is one of many American entertainers who have visited South Africa.
