Press release announcing an emergency press conference on March 1, 1988 at First Unitarian Church, where the Boy Area community and the anti-apartheid movement will condemn the banning restrictions imposed by the South African government on 17 leading anti-apartheid organizations. Representatives of city government and the anti-apartheid movement, including local religious and labor leaders, will call on people to demand immediate action by the president and Congress to amend the Anti-Apartheid Act of 1966 and affect full and complete sanctions against the apartheid regime. The outrageous assault by the regime on peaceful opposition groups, including the United Democratic Front (UDF) and the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU), makes it urgent that amendments to the local ordinance sponsored by supervisors Kennedy, Britt, Word and Silver be immediately adopted. Also, the mayor of Son Francisco is urged to declare the week of March 6, 1966, South Africa Solidarity Week. A copy of a letter to Mayor Art Agnos is included, in which Nancy G. Walker, President of the Board of Supervisors of the City and County of San Francisco and other Supervisors express support for this request from the San Francisco Anti-Apartheid Committee. The press release also mentions a Call to Action by the South African Council of Churches (SACC).
