The cover letter and agenda for the Steering Committee meeting on April 20, 1992 at Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union (ACTWU) discuss a new video on COSATU, our union education program, and the Soweto Day Walkathon on June 13. On March 22, a representative of CATERPILLAR workers in South Africa spoke at the UAW rally for striking Caterpillar workers in Peoria; the next day the CAT workers in Isando, South Africa began daily, one-hour, mid-day work stoppages in solidarity with the Caterpillar strike!! The STEELWORKERS and MACHINISTS unions have helped South African workers at Crown, Cork and Seal, a U.S. company, negotiate an agreement to rehire 200 fired union members in South Africa!! The mailing thanks people, especially from AFSCME (American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees), who participated in the action at the SA Consulate. T-shirts, buttons, literature and videos are available.
