Mailing about the invitation to the "Conference of The International Anti-Apartheid Solidarity Movement" in Johannesburg on February 19-21, 1993. The mailing includes a cover letter, RE: INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE IN SUPPORT OF THE ANC, and WHY IS THE CONFERENCE AN ABSOLUTE NECESSITY? This is the first time the African National Congress (ANC) will host such an event in South Africa. Activists from all over the world will formulate an International Program of Action to pave the way for elections and for the transition from apartheid to a free South Africa. The mailing requests donations for sending Harold Rogers to the conference. Rogers has a long history of solidarity with the ANC and the South African labor movement. Going back to the 1960s, as a teacher and through Cong. Charlie Hayes' office, the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists, and the Labor Network, Rogers has taught many about the liberation struggle in Southern Africa. Rogers has spent only three days in South Africa, although he has travelled to Africa every year. Rogers first met with ANC and COSATU leaders in Johannesburg in 1992. When Rogers returns, there will be a reception for contributors on March 7 at the home of Lisa Brock and Otis Cunningham. The mailing discusses CODESA (Convention for a Democratic South Africa), Democracy for South Africa (DSA), one-person, one-vote, democratic elections, sanctions, boycotts, a Constituent Assembly, establishing an Interim Government, Africans on white-owned farms, voter education, and CBTU (Coalition of Black Trade Unionists).
