The proposal says the Illinois Labor Network Against Apartheid will work with The DuSable Museum of African American History to highlight workers in South Africa and the U.S. in conjunction with the Museum's photographic exhibit: Why Are They Weeping? South Africans under Apartheid. The proposal says on Friday and Saturday, September 18 and 19, the Labor Network and the Museum will sponsor a program that focuses on the history of solidarity between organized workers in the U.S. and south Africa, and unions' role in the anti-apartheid movement, here and there, past and present. The proposal says the program will include a 4:00 pm Saturday RECEPTION, with an African dance presentation, a video on South African unions, and limited speaking. The proposal says museum tours, talks about the photo exhibit, videos, posters, written materials and resource people from the Museum and the Network will be available on a relatively continuous basis on September 18 and 19; story-telling, a puppet show and an African drummer will also be presented. The proposal says Friday hours will be 3-7:00 pm; Saturday hours: 12-7:00 pm. -- inside and outside (weather permitting); there will be no admission charged. The proposal says the Labor Network will encourage people in the labor community and their families, especially those who have not yet been to the Museum, and our members in Chicago and other Illinois cities, to visit the Museum on September 18-19 and to become members. The proposal says the Network hopes to be a resource to the DuSable Museum on ideas for inclusion of workers' rights, unions and labor leaders in the Museum's ongoing programs in the future. The proposal says this proposal has been adopted, in principle, by the steering Committee of the Labor Network and by the DuSable Museum.
