Meeting minutes covered general discussion and assessment of southern Africa work, discussion of the Coalition, and discussion of a conference. Carole Collins has been selected as Coalition coordinator. Groups present were the American Committee on Africa (ACOA) - Paul Irish, the Anti-Apartheid Movement, USA - Paul Pumphrey, American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) - Jim Bristol, Boston Coalition for the Liberation of Southern Africa (BCLSA) - Alan Zaslavsky, United Peoples Campaign Against Apartheid and Racism (UPCAAR) - Vince Klingler and Roz Pernell, the Washington Office on Africa (WOA) - Ted Lockwood and Chris Root, the Methodist Church, Women's Division - Mickie (?) Smith, and the Chicago Committee for African Liberation (CCAL), formerly CCLAMG. Discussion included southern Africa issues in Congress affected by the new Carter Administration, Andrew Young, anti-communism, racists attacks, racism, the United Nations (UN), liberation movements, SWAPO, the 'Gang of 5' deliberations with Vorster, a non-violent civil rights strategy, progressive business, Young's Maputo speech, speech in South Africa, diplomatic intervention, bank campaigns, city-wide and regional coalitions, corporate campaigns, the ITT campaign based in Dayton, IT&T (International Telephone and Telegraph), Del Monte boycott, black groups, demonstrations, racial polarization, liberal/radical constituencies, black leadership, NBCSA (National Black Coalition on Southern Africa), a new staff person and national office, funding, the Madison Conference, church groups, the need to make links between southern Africa and local struggles against racism and class oppression, a political statement, and coordination/pragmatic unity.
