The mailing asks Coalition groups to send expressions of support to the People's Republic of Mozambique conveying their outrage at the blatant violation of Mozambican sovereignty by the white minority Smith government of Rhodesia. Local groups and individuals also are asked to contact Congress and the President and insist: (1) that the U.S. government fully implement U.N. sanctions against Rhodesia by all U.S. corporations (including Mobil Oil), and (2) that the Senate authorize international security assistance aid to Mozambique to compensate for economic losses suffered because of these Rhodesian attacks. The House has passed such authorization, but the Senate Foreign Relations Committee has recommended no aid to Mozambique, Angola or Tanzania. The East Coast subcommittee of the Coalition will meet on June 25-26 in Philadelphia to discuss a possible fall conference, as per Steering committee decision of last December; Carole Collins, selected by the Midwest subcommittee to act as coalition staff person, will attend this meeting. The mailing discusses President Carter, Secretary of State Cyrus Vance, Senators Hubert Humphrey and Dick Clark, the Senate Subcommittee on Africa, and the Washington Office on Africa (WOA).
