The press release announces a press conference on July 2 and is accompanied by a statement protesting the South African government's distortion of so-called "race riots" in an attempt to isolate Black South Africans from the peoples of the world and in particular Black people of America. It commends the students in Soweto and elsewhere who resisted the government's limiting their education in certain subjects to Afrikaans, and congratulates white university students who protested their government's brutal actions in killing over a hundred Black African students who were peacefully demonstrating for their rights. The statement condemns the apartheid government for its murder of protesting Black African students and its exploitation of Blacks, as well as the U.S. role in supporting it. The statement declares solidarity with the Southern African liberation struggles by Blacks, whites, Latinos, Asians and native Americans. The press release and statement mention Dina Portnoy, Sue Levering, Rosa Seawright, Henry Kissinger's meetings with Vorster, Ian Smith's illegal government in Zimbabwe (Rhodesia), U.S. military and economic aid, diplomatic support, repressive minority regimes, the right of African people to rule themselves, Independence Mall, a four-point program of demands, education, speakers, and the fight for freedom in South Africa. • Support the just struggles of South African students • Support the just struggles of the South African people for majority rule • End diplomatic relations with South Africa • End U.S. aid to the racist South African government.
