This is the first film to give voice to Mozambicans who are trying to survive a brutal war. Albertino Roda, a young student teacher, tells the story of the destruction, as well as hope for the future. Roda has survived five RENAMO guerrilla attacks when he travels upcountry to find his parents, cut off somewhere in the war zone. On the trip, by train, truck, and on foot, he meets old neighbors, teachers, and refugees who guide him through their ravaged land.
