Leaflet advertising a speech by Rep. Charles Diggs about African liberation and the Afro-American community at Hendricks Chapel, Syracuse University on February 7. Rep. Diggs was the first Black elected member of the House of Representatives from Michigan. He was a founder of the Congressional Black Caucus and was U.S. delegate to the United Nations in 1971, but he resigned in protest of U.S. policy toward Portuguese Africa. He is now Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee's Subcommittee on Africa and is concerned with reversing U.S. support of Portugal in its colonial wars in Guiné, W. Africa, and in Mozambique and Angola in Southern Africa. The leaflet includes a poem by a Mozambique Freedom Fighter ("How can we tell you the size of our dream?") and a quotation from President Samora Machel of FRELIMO (Mozambique Liberation Front). The event is sponsored by Syracuse Afro-American Students, Program of East African Studies, and Committee on Southern African Liberation. The leaflet mentions Diana Ellis, imperialists, and revolution.
