The Seattle City divestment campaign was successful; the Board of Administration of the Seattle City Retirement System voted 4-2 to divest city pension funds from companies doing business with or in South Africa. Also, the campaign to stop Boeing's sale of airplanes to South African Airways began to build relationships with Local 751 of the International Association of Machinists by refusing to cross the striking workers picket line for a scheduled meeting with Frank Shrontz, Boeing's CEO. Solidarity with Boeing workers is not only a necessity for the peace and justice movement, but it will also creates an opportunity to work with union officials and rank and file workers on the sale to the apartheid regime.
