These guidelines were adopted at the January 2, 1985 meeting of the steering committee of the Boston Free South Africa Movement (FSAM), which formed soon after the FSAM was initiated following a sit-in at the South African Embassy in Washington, D.C. on Thanksgiving Eve in 1984. The guidelines emphasize the need for decisions to be made by the group rather than individuals and for groups to participate in labor and financial support of the coalition.
