The document calls on Black people to boycott Gulf to demonstrate to our African brothers and sisters fighting for freedom from colonial suppression by the Portuguese authorities that they are not fighting alone. Daily, in Portuguese-held Africa, men, women and children are being massacred, napalmed, machine gunned and imprisoned because they are seeking freedom and self-determination. When we buy any Gulf Oil Company product, we become complicit in these injustices committed against our own people. The unholy alliance between the Gulf Oil Company and the Portuguese government must be broken. Gulf pumps 150,000 barrels of oil a day from Africa for which it paid $62 million in fees and royalties in 1972 not to the rightful owners, the Africans, but to Portugal. Portugal, the poorest country in Europe, could not afford to fight its colonial wars without the fees paid by Gulf. The document demands that Gulf Oil Corporation cease this assistance to Portugal and this rapacious exploitation of Africa's wealth. Black people in America have the purchasing power of the entire population of Canada. We and our allies must use this strength to eradicate racism and injustice throughout Southern Africa. If you hold a Gulf credit card, return it; if you purchase Gulf products, please stop.
