The proposed Student Senate resolution condemns colonialism, apartheid, and racism in southern Africa and concurs with the U.N. General Assembly in recognizing apartheid as "a crime against humanity and a grave threat to international peace and security." The resolution identifies Oberlin College's policy of stock ownership in corporations that help maintain the white supremacist economy as substantial and active support of the governments of southern Africa and their genocidal policies. The resolution recommends that Oberlin College trustees request that these corporations set a timetable for swift and total disengagement from southern Africa, by proposing such disengagement at Shareholders' meetings, lobbying for its acceptance, and voting Oberlin College's stock proxies for it. The resolution also urges the College not to make new investments in corporations that have holdings in southern Africa. The resolution mentions Oberlin's investment portfolio and a non-oppressive investment policy.
