Report about the activities and finances of the South African Defense Fund from new employee Ann Morrissett. The document also contains a one-page report to contributors. At the end of January, 1959, the Defense Fund had about $2200 on hand, having just sent $2,000 to South Africa at the opening of the treason trial of the first group of 30 accused. At the end of April, the Fund had sent $10,000 more to South Africa. Over $15,300 was raised during this three-month period, including contributions of about $400 through Mary-Louise Hooper. Morrissett worked with George Houser on a funding appeal letter for ACOA and an accompanying leaflet about community action on the Defense Fund. Responding to a request from Cape Town, she asked Ben Shahan, Saul Steinberg, Rockwell Kent, William Gropper, and James Thurber to contribute art works for an auction for the defense fund there.
