The leaflet says the United Nation's General Assembly has condemned the government of South Africa for its blatantly racist policies under the apartheid system; although human rights are violated in many parts of the world, the situation in South Africa is unique in that it is ONLY in South Africa that repressive discriminatory laws based on skin color and genetics is enforced daily; it is a country in which it is legal, indeed required, to be unjust to a majority of its own citizens. The leaflet says the Honolulu City Council declared last October 11th "Anti-Apartheid" protest day and over 150 of Hawaii's people participated in a peaceful demonstration at the Federal Building. The leaflet says last month, the Rev. Beyers Naude, General Secretary of the South African Council of Churches and a White Afrikaner stated: "We in the South African Council of Churches have called for no further investment in South Africa until apartheid ends. I believe that is a very-meaningful, peaceful, nonviolent step to force the government to change its policies much more rapidly than they're doing at present." The leaflet says if you have contributions to a pension fund through a union or company, politely ask the pension fund manager or your union leaders to dump the stocks of firms operating in South Africa; if you spot South African goods being sold in a store, go to the manager and ask him to remove the goods; your individual commitment will make a difference.; an undated list of U.S. Corporations operating in South Africa can seen at the UNA-USA Offices or the Hawaii Council of Churches offices; you may also write the Hawaii Committee for Africa for a list; during this holiday season of brotherhood and goodwill, let us demonstrate our commitment towards human rights by quietly working for divestiture of investments in South Africa by asking a few simple questions of our union leaders or portfolio fund managers. • WHAT YOU CAN DO
