Dr. Farisani has long spoken out against the injustices of apartheid and has been a target of harassment by the authorities. He has been detained four times without charge or trial and has been tortured. Dr. Farisani is author of several books, including "Diary From a South African Prison." The offering will go to the Devhula Diaconate Fund and the Ecumenical Confessing Fellowship, both in South Africa. Those involved in the planning this event include the Episcopal Church in Hawaii, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America-Hawaii Conference, Hawaii Committee for Africa, Hawaii Council of Churches, Hawaii Institute for Theological Studies, Hawaii Circuit of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, Roman Catholic Diocese of Honolulu, and Hawaii Conference of the United Church of Christ.
