The press release says demonstrations demanding divestment and sanctions against South Africa will be held in cities and campuses across the U.S. on October 10 and 11. The press release says in Hawaii, protesters will continue to hold open-house at the shanty that went up last Tuesday in front of the UH-Manoa Administration building; the shanty is a symbol of the economic oppression of Blacks in South Africa under apartheid. The press release says off-campus, anti-apartheid protesters will gather tomorrow at the traffic triangle near the newsbuilding from 4 to 6 p.m. as part of the national protest day for South African divestment and sanctions; the National Protest day was endorsed at a Student Anti-Apartheid Strategy Session last June in New York over 150 student leaders from 50 campuses across the country attended the meeting. The press release says representing Hawaii was UH Graduate Student Renee Furuyama, President of the Manoa Campus Hawaii Committee for Africa, a group which has been active in anti-apartheid activities over the past year.
