Mailing to anti-apartheid organizers in Hawaii asking for events to be organized and publicized as part of the national Weeks of anti-apartheid action from March 21 (Sharpeville Massacre) to April 4 (Martin Luther King, Jr. assassination). Hawaii has over $100 million of state pension funds still invested in South Africa-related stocks, and University of Hawaii President Simone continues to defy the Regent's order to divest. The mailing says support is needed for resolutions in the House and Senate calling for immediate divestment of State pension funds and for a call to get Simone to implement the Regent's guidelines to divest. The mailing includes a leaflet about the national Weeks of Action from the American Committee on Africa. It asks for commitments to sponsor a forum, coordinate a letter-writing campaign to legislators, circulate a petition calling for divestment of pension funds, support a fund raising activity (dance?) for Namibia freedom fighters etc. The mailing says the Hawaii Committee for Africa, like last year, will coordinate a sign-waving activity at the corner of Keeaumoku and King on March 21.
