The struggle today is against global apartheid - the worldwide system of entrenched inequalities and racism that keeps Africa poor. Global challenges, like the AIDS pandemic, the failure of peacekeeping, and the burden of illegitimate foreign debt, have their most devastating consequences in Africa. The theme for October 3 is "Ending Global Apartheid: Uniting to Change U.S. Policy Toward Africa," with sessions on "Ending Global Apartheid," "Drop the Debt, Treat the People," "Uniting to Fight," and "Africa Action's MOST WANTED Campaign," an initiative to demand U.S. leadership in fighting HIV/AIDS. The theme for October 4 is "Africa Action National Mobilizing Strategy," with sessions on "The Africa's Right to Health Campaign" and "Bringing it all together," building toward the Africa Action "Day of Action " on World AIDS Day on December 1. Invited African partners are All African Conference of Churches, All African Students Union, BAOBAB for Women's Health Rights, FEMNET (African Women's Development and Communications Network), Forum for African Alternatives, Human Rights Action Group, Network of Africa People Living with HIV/AIDS and the Treatment Action Campaign. Invited national organization partners are Fifty Years is Enough U.S. Network for Global Economic Justice, Advocates for Youth, AFL-CIO, Africa Faith and Justice Network, African Services Committee, AIDS Action, American Friends Service Committee (AFSC), Amnesty International, Artists for a New South Africa, Black AIDS Institute, Black Radical Congress, Center for Economic Justice/World Bank Bonds Boycott Campaign, Coalition of Black Trade Unionists (CBTU), Conscious Movements Collective, DC Metro Washington Labor Council, Ethiopian Community Development Council, Foreign Policy in Africa, Friends of the Earth, Global AIDS Alliance, Global Justice, Health GAP, Jobs with Justice, Jubilee USA Physicians for Human Rights, Progressive National Baptist Convention, Student Global AIDS Campaign, TransAfrica, United States Student Association, Washington Office on Africa.
