Booth, Judge, Criminal Court of New York City. The report says I was commissioned, along with Bishop William F. Creighton, of Washington, D.C., by the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church of the United States of America, the Most Rev. John E. Hines, to attend, observe and audit the trial of the Very Rev. Gonville Aubie ffrench-Beytagh, Dean of the Cathedral of St. Mary the Virgin, Johannesburg, South Africa. The report says while there I stayed at the home of the Right Rev. Leslie Stradling, Anglican Bishop of Johannesburg, except for a three-day visit to East London and Alice in the Eastern Cape Province and at Umtata in the Transkei region of the country; Bishop Creighton and I were accompanied by the Very Rev. Francis B. Sayers, Jr., Dean of the Washington Cathedral, who was commissioned by the Deans of the United States and Canada to added the trial proceedings; I received requests from the International Commission of Jurists and from the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People to report my observations. The pamphlet includes a photograph of Judge Booth being welcomed by the Chairman of the Special Committee on Apartheid at the U.N., the Hon. Abdulrahim Abby Farah. The report discusses the Terrorism Act, the Suppression of Communism Act, the death penalty, police, Bantu Commissioner's Courts, Pass Laws, Joel Carlson, poverty, separation of races, hostels, American Churchmen, South African Churches, unions, workers, the Defence and Aid Fund in London, African liberation movements, the Supreme Court of the Transvaal, Black Sash, the American Consul General, Edward J. McHale, detention without charge, Mr. Rothwell, Fordsburg, a Reference Book, Warrant Officer Flynn, Minister of Justice Mr. Pelser, Colonel Pretorius, black prisons, Soweto township, the Dimbaza resettlement area, malnutrition, the Federal Theological Seminary at Alice in the Eastern Cape, students, townspeople, Robben Island, torture, 'homelands', shacks, the Organization of African Unity (OAU), dialogue, the House Foreign Affairs sub-committee on Africa, and the United Nations Special Committee on Apartheid.
