The mailing is for the campaign to STAND FOR TRUTH: UNTIL SOUTH AFRICA IS FREE scheduled to begin from Pentecost (May 14) to Soweto (June 16,17). The mailing includes a bulletin insert and a Call to Action, both with the same title and the resource HUNGER STRIKE IN SOUTH AFRICA. The campaign is to support South African churches, which have been increasingly under attack by the government, including the bombing attack on Khotso House, which houses the SACC, and the arson attack on Khanya House, which houses the Southern African Catholic Bishops Conference. The mailing quotes Frank Chikane, General Secretary, South African Council of Churches (SACC), and Allan Boesak, President, World Alliance of Reformed Churches. South African churches are calling on people in the U.S. to advocate for comprehensive sanctions and other campaigns focused on corporations doing business with South Africa. U.S. church organizations have formed the South Africa Crisis Coordinating Committee (SACCC) to respond. A Covenant Statement with the people and church in South Africa is included.
