Leaflet apparently distributed at a Teach-In on October 8, 1988 that was part of a campaign to get Davidson College to divest its millions of dollars invested in companies doing business in South Africa. The South African Council of Churches and many others have called for total economic isolation of South Africa. Davidson students, faculty, and alumni have repeatedly appealed to the college trustees to divest completely. In 1860, Davidson was on the side of slavery; in 1960, Davidson resisted desegregation; in 1988, shouldn't Davidson demonstrate unequivocally its opposition to racism and apartheid? The leaflet includes quotes by John Vorster, Former Prime Minister, Republic of South Africa, and the Rev. Frank Chikane, General Secretary, South African Council of Churches (SACC). South African Teach-In participating organizations include Davidson Students Against Apartheid, Davidson Black Alumni of Charlotte, Davidson Alumni Against Apartheid, Charlotteans for a Free Southern Africa, NC Fair Share, N.C. NAACP, Charlotte SCLC, NC SANE/FREEZE, Charlotte Equal Rights Congress, Carolina Interfaith Task Force on Central American, Charlotte Labor Council, and Carolina Community Project.
