The statement says the Twin Cities Committee for the Liberation of Southern Africa began in September, 1978; we are a group of local residents, blue and white collar workers and students. The statement says our committee has, until recently, primarily worked as an educational and material support group for Zimbabwe; we supported both the Zimbabwe African National Union (ZANU) and the Zimbabwe African People's Union (ZAPU), the two main armed liberation forces in that country. The statement says we plan to turn our attention more steadily toward South Africa and Namibia; the consequent of majority rule in Zimbabwe for South Africa it that it leaves that country virtually isolated as a racist, minority regime in southern Africa. The statement says community and national organizations, as well as student movements on U.S. college campuses, have called for divestment of university and corporate funds in South Africa; just last week, the Minneapolis Tribune carried an item that told about the withdrawal of Wedge Community Coop funds from the Northwest Banco system; the Minnesota Conference of the United Church of Christ also withdrew funds from another Northwestern bank. The statement says the Twin Cities Committee for the Liberation of Southern Africa plans to focus, in the coming months, on the situation and struggle in South Africa. The statement discusses Edson Shirihuru, armed struggle, racism, Northwest Bancorporation, Afrikaners, apartheid, the Nationalist Party, influx control, labor recruitment, restrictions on unionization, the Colour Bar, pass laws, Bantustans, U.S. banks, corporations, Mobil, Caltex, Ford, General Motors (GM), Exxon, multinational oil companies, the computer industry, International Business Machines (IBM), National Cash Register, Burroughs, Univac-Sperry Rand, Hewlett Packard, Honeywell, Control Data Corporation, the Department of Defence, the Atomic Energy Board, the Armaments Board, Chase Manhattan, Citibank, Manufacturers Hanover Trust, Morgan Guarantee, and Bank of America.
