Report for the General Committee of the University Christian Movement from the Southern Africa Committee (SAC). SAC publishes a monthly newsletter, "Southern Africa, a Survey of News and Opinion." The report says SAC participated in many meetings with church agencies and instrumentalities primarily about their bank deposits and stock portfolios. SAC research showed the role played by Dillon, Read and Co. in establishing the original ten-bank consortium credit to the South African government. The reports says SAC has written a supplementary document for the WSCF arguing for that the body's withdrawal from First National City Bank, a withdrawal ratified in January. The report says there has been contact with student groups at Wesleyan, Ohio, Boston, Harvard, Princeton, and Wisconsin Universities, and Andover Newton and Union Theological Seminaries about its work and priorities. SAC also has lobbied on Capitol Hill on behalf of a bill pertaining to the U.S. donation to the United Nations Trust Fund for South Africa. The report says SAC has been invited by the United Nations Special Committee on Apartheid to participate in planning to commemorate March 21 as the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. The report says SAC has written a document called "University Reformulation: A Proposal." SAC has hosted visitors from the Nation Union of South African Students (NUSAS) and the University Christian Movement of Southern Africa. The document discusses the National Episcopal Student Committee, Chase Manhattan Bank, Gail Morlan, Senator Eugene McCarthy, Senator Robert Kennedy, the African-American Institute (AAI), scholarships, and African students.
