Mailing including a copy of a letter to the Board of Directors, Western Michigan University Foundation from Donald T. Van Hoeven dated June 13, 1983 and a letter to Van Hoeven from Chauncey J. Brinn, Secretary, Board of Trustees. The letter to the Board says I am writing to see clarification of the WMU Foundation's position regarding its investments in those companies which are located in the Republic of South Africa. The letter to the Board says as you may be aware, this area of concern has been addressed by the WMU Faculty Senate, the AAUP, the Western Student Association, the Local Chapter of the NAACP, and numerous other groups on campus and in the community. The letter to the Board says the overwhelming request to the University is that they no longer hold investment in such companies. The letter to the Board says while there has been considerable debate on this subject, recent actions by the government of the State of Michigan have provided additional pubic concern and direction to these discussions. The mailing discusses Dr. Alfred L. Edwards, Chairman of the Western Michigan University Board of Trustees.
