The Executive Committee of the Council of Churches in Namibia (CCN), meeting in Windhoek on April 2, 1985, expressed opposition to the Multi-Party Conference (MPC) having asked the South African State President for the power to set up an 'interim government in Namibia. The group reiterated its position that implementing the United Nations Security Council Resolution 435 of 1978 remains the only basis for a peaceful solution in Namibia which will receive the support of the international community. The statement mentions the United Nations Transitional Assistance Group (UNTAG), Security Council Resolution 431 (1978), and Security Council Resolutions 385 (1976).
