Memorandum about the campaign to get the Michigan State University (MSU) Foundation to divest from companies doing business in South Africa. Jon Lacey, of United Ministries in Higher Education, has agreed to speak at the December 12 Trustee's meeting. The memorandum says some people suggest waiting until the elections; Board member Joel Ferguson has publicly stated his support of divestment. Some suggested actions are a campaign to encourage alumni and friends to put donations that would normally go to the University in escrow until divestment occurs, sit-in at the Foundation offices or at Trustee's meetings, and erect shanties in front of the Administration Building. Bill Derman would like to discuss the status of the TIAA-CREF action. With the memo is "To: President DiBiaggio, Members of the Board of Trustees; From Kenneth W. Harrow, Professor of Humanities." The memorandum discusses the Southern Africa Liberation Committee (SALC), the State of Emergency, detention, Amnesty International, children, homelands or Bantustans, infant mortality rates, the Afrikaans community, the Reverend Sullivan, the Botha regime, cosmetic reforms, Berkey Hall, and Barrie Thorne.
