Proposal by the Napa Valley College Students for a Free South Africa to the College's Foundation that it (1) stop purchasing securities of U.S. companies operating in South Africa and (2) sell shares in such companies within one year - or within two years in the event of possible financial losses. The document goes on to explain the basics of the system of apartheid, the history of resistance, U.S. government policy toward south Africa, U.S. corporate investment, and the movement toward divestment and arguments for and against. The proposal includes quotations by Prime Minister J.B. Vorster; Albert Luthuli, late leader of the African National Congress (ANC); Allan Boesak, president of the World Alliance of Reformed Churches; John Gaetsewe, General Secretary of the banned South African Congress Trade Unions (SACTU); scholar Stephen Zunes; the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC); and the UC Divestment Coalition (University of California Divestment Coalition). It also includes a reprint of "Is Reconciliation Possible in South Africa? An Interview with Allen Boesak," by David A. Hoekema.
