Description

Memorandum asking people to write to Senator D'Amato urging him to vote for the Kennedy-Weicker bill on South African sanctions (S. 635). The memorandum says the ACAS steering committee decided in February that it would expand and mobilize its network in five or six key areas that are represented by swing members of Congress. The network coordinator at the Washington Office on Africa and the House Africa Subcommittee staff have selected New York as being especially important because Senator D'Amato, who sits on the Senate Banking Committee, is one of the swing votes. Washington organizers have decided to focus lobbying particularly on liberal-to-moderate Republican senators on key committees....
