Memorandum to divestment supporters from Jim Burchell, Aide to Representative Perry Bullard. The mailing says it looks like we have just one more chance to pass divestment legislation, HB 4770 and HB 4771, in the Michigan State senate. The memorandum says although the legislation was reported out of the senate Committee on Economic Development, Trade and Tourism in early September, the State Senate has delayed action on the bills -- with the clear intention of allowing the bills to die without a full and fair vote when the legislature ends the current session; on the last day before the Senate recessed for the Thanksgiving holidays (Wednesday, Nov. 19) John Engler made it clear he planned to move just about every bill left on the Senate calendar except the divestment legislation; our only hope is to apply whatever pressure we can exert upon John Engler to allow the bills to come up for a vote. The memorandum asks people to call Engler's office, write, or send a telegram asking that he schedule the bill for consideration. The memorandum also asks people to the contact Senate Minority Leader, Arthur Miller, Jr.
