Copy of a letter to Robert Brown, Jr., Director of the Michigan Department of Corrections, informing him that the NAACP has learned that the Department is currently purchasing products imported from the Republic of South Africa and distributed by Gordon Food Service Company. The letter expresses that the NAACP is disturbed by such purchases, particularly when the Michigan state legislature is considering a bill to divest Michigan's pension funds from companies doing business with or that are located in South Africa. Charles Anderson of the NAACP called on the Department of Corrections to stop buying fruit cocktail and other products from Gordon Food Service that are imported from South Africa....
