Two weeks after their release, some of the Namibian men and women who had been held in incommunicado captivity at the Mariental camp of the South African Defence Force (SADF) were detained by the South African Police (SAP). The mailing includes a statement by the Executive Committee of the Council of Churches in Namibia that condemns the arrest of 37 people on private church property on June 9, 1984. The mailing mentions SWAPO, the South African Special Police Task Force, a Roman Catholic seminary, Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Chester Crocker, Prime Minister Pieter W. Botha, the Multi-Party Conference, and Secretary of State George Shultz.
