Memorandum sent as a mailing advertising a demonstration in front of the General Motors Headquarters building on September 10, 1984 and a protest rally with the theme "From Sharpeville (1960) to Sharpeville (1984) – Racist Violence against the Oppressed and Struggling People of South Africa must be stopped now" at Hartford Memorial Baptist Church on September 16, 1984. The mailing includes a leaflet FIGHTSLAVERY IN SOUTH AFRICA FIGHT RACISM AT HOME. The leaflet says the Southern Africa Freedom Committee (SAFC) was recently formed in the Detroit area to educate and to organize in support of the people of southern Africa who are fighting for freedom from racist apartheid slavery. The leaflet says the struggle in South Africa and Namibia is at a critical stage; and it is the U.S. government and corporations like GM, Michigan National Bank and IBM that prop up the racist South Africa regime; while laying off thousands right here at home, U.S. runaway factories in South Africa make huge profits from slave wages they pay Black workers. The leaflet says around the country the SAFC has organized successful protests and demonstrations against various artists who have performed in South Africa and the many institutions who invest in the racist system. The leaflet says a partial list of endorsers include the South African Freedom Committee - All Peoples Congress; Provisional Government, Republic of New Africa; New Africa People Organization; All Africans Revolutionary Party; International Defense and Aid Fund for Southern Africa; and Workers World Party. The mailing includes General Motors in South Africa: Secret Contingency Plans "in the event of civil unrest" by Jennifer Davis, The Africa Fund.
