Leaflet advertising a talk on October 24, 1978 at the University of Michigan by Drake Koka, general secretary of the Black Allied Workers Union (BAWU), about political prisoners in South Africa and the fight for Black majority rule. The leaflet says Koka was also a cofounder and first general secretary of the Black People's Convention, an umbrella organization that developed out of the Black Consciousness Movement. In February 1973, Koka was placed under a five-year ban that kept him under house arrest. After participating in the June 1976 Soweto rebellion, Koka was again banned. The event is sponsored by the Michigan Student Assembly and the Washtenaw County Coalition Against Apartheid.
