The press release says a dissident South African white clergyman and educator will speak at Michigan State University (MSU) on "New Developments in Apartheid in South Africa" on January 14. Dr. Kenneth Carstens, a Methodist clergyman, is the United States representative of the International Defense and Aid Fund for Southern Africa (IDAFSA). IDAFSA, based in London, raises funds for legal aid and defense of victims of apartheid. Cartsens will discuss recent proposed changes in apartheid legislation governing trade unions, labor migration, industrial conflict, and so-called "petty apartheid." Carstens also will discuss implications of these changes for U.S. relations with South Africa.
