Mailing inviting people to a southern California regional meeting on Sunday, February 5 to organize a petition campaign and a March 17 demonstration. The mailing says SACS participated in a statewide conference of liberation support and anti-apartheid groups in Santa Barbara including representatives from nine U.C. (University of California) campuses, several state universities, locals of the American Federations od State, County and Municipal Employees Union (AFSCME), the Stanford South Africa 'Catalyst' Project, church groups, the African National Congress (ANC), and Black Consciousness Movement. The group unanimously adopted a proposal to initiate a statewide campaign to demand the immediate and unconditional divestment of all public monies (e.g. U.C. endowments and pension funds, State Retirement System funds, etc.) from corporations operating in South Africa. A first step will be a massive petition drive culminating at a March 17 demonstration at the U.C. Board of Regents meeting at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
